The election polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CST on the day of the election. The City of Brookings will conduct its elections using Vote Centers. Voters may vote at any one of the Vote Centers that they choose.

You must be registered to vote 15 days prior to an election.

HERE to complete and return to the County Finance Office in the City and County Government Center (520 3rd St.).  South Dakota voters are required to provide proof of identification.  Approved forms of ID include:
  • South Dakota driver's license or nondriver ID card
  • U.S. government photo ID (passport is acceptable)
  • U.S. Armed Forces ID 
  • Current student photo identification card from a South Dakota high school or South Dakota accredited institution of higher education
  • Tribal photo ID
If you do not have a photo ID, you can sign a personal identification affidavit, and will still be allowed to vote a regular ballot.

How to find out your current voter registration status– Are you unsure if you are registered to vote, not sure where you are registered, or just interested in checking your registration status?  You can easily search the SD Secretary of State website to see if your registration is current and valid by visiting here
. 

Who may register to vote – You must meet the following criteria to register:
  • You are a United States Citizen
  • You are a resident of South Dakota (*Non-resident students: See Student Voting Guide below)
  • You are at least 18 years of age (or will be by the date of the next election)
  • You have not been convicted of a felony
  • You have not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent

You will need to re-register to vote when:
  • You move
  • You change your name
  • You change your political party affiliation
  • Have not voted in 4 years, and are listed on the inactive voter list
Where do I register?
The
 County Finance Office is responsible for coordinating all countywide elections, including primary and general Elections.  The County Finance Office is located in the City and County Government Center (520 3rd St.).
Brookings County residents can register to vote and request absentee ballots for countywide, primary and general elections from the County Finance Office.

Early Voting
Any registered voter may vote by early/absentee ballot until 5:00 p.m. the day before election day.
